  • Tactic 1: Failing economic system
  •
  • What should we do!?
  • Public disarray
  •
  • Tactic 2: Social Chaos/ unrest
  • Tactic 3: Propaganda
  • *Propaganda perpetuating/ manipulating the political and social stances of the uneducated who cannot really refute what is being said because they have no prior knowledge on what is going on*
  • The general public will go into chaos and start panicking when there is a severe economic decline or market crash such as the great depression. Dictators will use that to their advantage by telling the public that they can fix the economic problems and making it seem like their the only person that can fix the market crash or stop the economy from declining even further.
  • Tactic 4: Getting rid of the enemy/ shifting the blame
  • Economic decline
  • IT WAS YOU!!!
  • Dictators will use social chaos to their advantage as well. The kind of social chaos that goes on can be anything from racism to being antis of a religion. It can also be from separation of social classes. An example of this is in the french revolution when the lower social class rebelled as a result of there being such a huge gap between the wealthy and the poor. This revolution gave the french dictator Napoleon Bonaparte the opportunity to come to power.
  • Tactic 5: Military might
  • Propaganda isn't exclusive to a government that is ran by a dictator, but dictators will use it in their best interest. Propaganda works best on people who don't have the resources to gain information that can oppose or refute the propaganda. An example of this are North Korean propaganda movies. In the past, movies that were made in North Korea always featured the country as the most advanced/ successful and everywhere else was war ridden. It would also depict the dictator of the time as the country's savior.
  • Tactic 6: Charismatic qualities
  • Another tactic that dictators use to gain public favor is by shifting the blame of an economic decline, or any other major problem the nation is facing to a marginalized group of people that are already not popular in the general public's opinion. This is to gain public favor because people will be most likely to follow a leader that they perceive to have the same opinions/ political stances as themselves.
  • Dictators also have some sort of military aid that enforces the policies and laws that they put in place. An example of this is in Nazi Germany when Adolf Hitler had the Nazi Sturmabteilung.
  • A lot of the times dictators have charismatic or kind of an overly confident aura about themselves. Dictators often come to power in a time of chaos or unrest in a nation by making the general public feel like what they need is someone who is strong as a leader such as theirself.
