  • Why is adolescence a time of raging hormones. From the time they wake up to the time they go to sleep, they just act out of character at certain times
  • Ms.Teaks, that's a myth we have been believing for some time now. Its not the hormones, but the changes in the brain.
  • They are developing young ladies/gents. We must embrace the stage, not envy the stage of their lives. Let's take a closer look
  • Why does Kevin feel like its okay to touch me?! On the bus! EW!
  • Ha! I totally touched her back! She's so hot dude
  • So all of this is due to the brain development and not just hormones? HOW? Just listen to the halls
  • I CANNOT go into class today. I never wear my natural hair. I feel naked. Ugh I hate my life right now.
  • Dude, all I can say is... you never know until you try. Just risk it all my friend
  • She is hot! You think I can get a shot at that too? I've never done something so risky
  • During adolescence the hypothalamus in the brain begins to signal to stimulate production of hormones. That means the hormones are a product of the brains directions. The growth and development of the brain allows for the release of hormones such as testosterone, estrogen, FSH, and LH that can effect males and females differently.
  • That could be a reason Kevin felt the need to exhibit that type of behavior on the bus and he might not know the proper way to control himself
  • That's right, I read in an article by Lenroot et al 2007 and Neufang et al 2009 that mentioned the amount of gray matter in the brain as it relates to adolescents. The gray matter plays a role in the sexual expressions that adolescents display- especially in adolescent boys
  • Neuroendocrine systems contribute to neurobehavioral changes. Oxytocin and Vasopressin, stimulated by the brain, are social bonding hormones that change in adolescence.
  • Puberty is not a brief event or a unitary phenomenon but includes distinct temporarily-overlapping processes that extend over several years- Dorn et al 2006.
  • Thanks Ms,Walter, I will definitely be more understanding when it comes to their emotional and social problems. It is how we choose to respond that can make all the difference
  • Adolescence is not a period of raging hormone. Yet, it can be tricky to explain but it involves the many changes that occur in their body- not all are hormonal
  • Your welcome! As an educator, I am an advocate for adolescents. We can't continue to let myths run our mindset! We have to understand that adolescence is a time full of change and growth.
