  • The Prison and Asylum Reform took place in the 1840s. And was founded by Dorathea Dix. Dorothea Dix was an American advocate on behalf of the indigent mentally ill. The Prison and Asylum Reform was started to tell people that they can't treat the mental ill differently than others. This movement emphasizes treatment for the mental ill. She created the first generation of American mental asylums. She wanted less humans being abused and contained in terrible conditions.

  • There was a tremendous need for this reform because we needed to change the perspective of others, they though that the mentally ill were considered a result of sin.
