- Battle at Lexington
- In response to the Boston Tea Party, during which in defiance of the Tea Act, the colonists destroyed an entire shipment of tea sent by the British. This led colonists to respond to the Intolerable Acts, which was issued some time after the Boston Tea Party took place.
- We should fight back for our freedom!
- British set out in an expedition to seize weapons from the Patriots and prison their leaders. This was after getting a news that ammunition and weapons were being held by Provincial Congress. They were given the task to stop those who were rebelling agains Britain.
- Battle at Concord
- For God’s sake, fire!
- British troops march into the small town of Lexington, finding themselves faced by militiamen. Someone fired a shot, starting the American Revolution, and the nervous British soldiers fire a volley, killing seven and mortally wounding one of the retreating militiamen.
- Effects on Great Britain
- Many colonists had decided to join the militia and prepared to fight against Great Britain that was led by Captain John Parker.
- When British troops arrived at Concord, they were confronted by around 400 American patriots at Concord’s North Bridge. A brief exchange of fire ensued which saw the first instance of Americans firing to deadly effect on British regulars, who were forced to withdraw.
- The British soldiers were killed and wounded, hurting the Great Britain politically. Great Britain was not able to control their colony anymore. This led to more battles that would eventually lead to the Independence of the Americans.
