- The Lady bent Rob's sword back to a right angle, and threw it across the room. She grabbed him by the shoulder and squeezed it with her strong inhuman hands.
- Kat! Hurts....(pg. 305)
- The Lady puts an eel charm around Rob's neck, and whispered words under her breath. Kat threw her hands over her ears, for she could not bear the sound. When she finally opened her eyes, Rob's body was limp and his eyes blank, he was a body without a soul.
- Your soul will sleep within its keep, your life will linger dark and deep; by rock and bone, by blood and stone, not life, nor death, but lost, alone.(pg. 306)
- Kat discovered that the Lady wasn't really a lady, but a witch. A witch made of winding gears, sharp pointed teeth, not flesh or bone, but metal and machines. The Lady denies her idea and admits that she's been alive much much longer than any other human, and that when she's done adding to her collection, she'll be perfect and become immortal.
- You're a witch.(pg. 306)
- My dear Katherine, I'm not a witch. I have a power you can't imagine. I've already lived many lifetimes. I've made a collection to witch I just added. And when I'm finished adding, I'll be perfect. And I will live forever. (pg. 307)
- Kat finally came to the conclusion that the big, beautiful portrait in the foyer wasn't the castle last owner, but the Lady. She's been alive all these years, taking the souls of helpless, innocent children. Kat confronted her and told her she was a monster. But the Lady told Kat she was a monster as well. That her hand was turning into little machines just as the Lady's whole body was.
- That's not Lady Leonore's portrait in the hall. That's you. You've been alive for centuries already. You've been casting spell.s Spreading confusion, even pitting us against each other. You're a monster as well as a witch. (pg. 307)

- I'm a monster? I don't think you know what you've already started to become. Your right hand. Have you looked at it in the full moonlight? Have you listened to it in the dark?(pg. 307)
- The Lady tells Kat that she is able to save her Father, who has been captured by the Nazis during war, if she brings her Peter, one of Kat's friends. The Lady is trying to turn Kat and Peter against each other because if done the Lady will be able to get the souls of both peter and Kat and be able to live forever.
- Peter? You need Peter? You'll save Father?(pg. 308)
- You think this power I have could not be used for any purpose I choose? All i need is for you to bring me the other boy, and i could save him, your father. I could teach you to use this magic that you possess.(pg. 308)
