  • Oh I know, I'll tax the colonies.
  • No Taxation without representation!
  • Taxes, taxes. Come and pay your taxes.
  • They're right, I was being unfair,
  • To myself! More taxes!
  • King George III had a problem. Britain was in debt from the French and Indian War, and he had to find a way to pay it of fast. Then he had an idea, he would tax the colonists to help him pay for the war. After all, they did fight in it.
  • Sugar Act
  • ENOUGH!
  • The Proclamation Line of 1763
  • Tea Act
  • He imposed the stamp Act on the colonists. It taxed all legal paper documents. He thought it was fairly reasonable, but the colonists didn't agree.
  • Despite the colonies complaints, King George III decided to tax the colonies even more.
  • We're having a revolution!
  • Off to fight a war, and hopefully not die trying.
  • The Colonists got so fed up with the taxes and laws that 12 out of the 13 colonies sent representatives to the Continental Congresses.

  • Here at the Second Continental Congress, is the signing of the Declaration of Independence that Thomas Jefferson wrote. It is basically a break up letter to Britain.
  • The American Revolution begins when British soldiers try to take ammunition held at Lexington and Concord. General George Washington is leading the army.
