  • King Louis's weak leadership during his reign was a lack of understanding of the political and economic challenges faced by France. France was in debt because they funded the American Revolution. King Louis XVI was spending half of his national budget to service the federal debt. Louis tried to fix it but it led to rising food prices and hunger, which made the people of France angry
  • STORMING OF THE BASTILLE
  • The meeting of the General Estates in 1789 was a significant event in the lead-up to the French Revolution. It brought together representatives from the three estates the clergy, nobility, and commoner, to discuss and address the financial and social crisis in the country.
  • THE REIGN OF TERROR
  • The Tennis Court Oath took place on June 20, 1789, when members of the National Assembly, who had been locked out of their meeting place, gathered in a nearby tennis court and pledged not to disband until a new constitution was established. This act of defiance against the monarchy marked a pivotal moment in the French Revolution and demonstrated the determination of the revolutionaries to bring political change.

  • The storming of the Bastille on July 14, 1789, was a act of rebellion and a turning point in the French Revolution. Angry mobs stormed the Bastille prison, seen as a symbol of royal tyranny, in search of weapons and to release prisoners. The event represented a direct challenge to the authority of King Louis XVI.
  • The Reign of Terror, which occurred from 1793 to 1794, was a period of extreme violence and political repression during the French Revolution. Led by the Committee of Public Safety and Maximilien Robespierre, it aimed to eliminate perceived enemies of the revolution through mass executions, including prominent figures.
