  • This is where I learned how gravity works. I learned when an apple fell on my head while I was reading. I realized that there must be a force that was acting on that apple to move.
  •
  • Why did the apple go to the ground , not into space?
  • Deslizar: 2
  • This is because all objects in the universe are attracted to the center of other objects. The more mass the object has, the more it will pull. This is why the Earth keeps every person onto the ground because it has more mass.
  • Is this why the Earth stays in orbit?
  • Here is another example. As you can see, the trash cans are staying on the ground because of the pull in the Earth.

  • Yes! The sun pulls in all the planets.
  • Why don't all of the planets have the same orbit?
  • This is because the further away the object is, the less pull the object has. This is why Mercury has a short orbit and Neptune has a long one.

  • Even though we are farther away from all of these stars, they still have a pull on us!
  • Is that it?
  • Deslizar: 5
  • I think I get it!
  • Not yet! Another factor towards gravity is mass. The larger the mass of an object the more pull it will have. This is why on the moon you can jump around, but on Earth, there is more pull. Weight is also a factor. With more weight comes more gravity. This is why a human can jump higher than an elephant.

  • So basically, gravity is a force on every object in the universe that attracts objects towards each other. The more weight on an object, the more mass on an object, the harder it will attract, which is why the planets orbit the sun. The more distance two objects have, the less pull it will have, which is why Neptune has a longer orbit than Mercury. Gravity pulls on all objects and is the reason humans stay on the ground.
