- Assessment is an integral part of the education system, both in Ireland and around the world.
- Assessment according to the NCCA is -the process of generating, gathering, recording, interpreting, using and reporting evidence of learning in individuals, groups or systems, which relies upon a number of instruments and methods. Educational assessment provides information about progress in learning.
- I however think that you can sum up definition by saying that-assessment is a way for teachers to see how well their students are picking up what they are teaching
- I believe that the purpose of assessment is two-fold.Firstly it is to give the teachers an idea as to how well students are understand the materials/what the teacher may need to focus on or tweakSecondly it is to help students get use to exam situations and also to learn how to properly express their ideas
- My role as a teacher in assessment is obviously to help prepare my students.I must for each topic select the most important parts and then teach them in a way that helps all the types of learners in my room to learn.
- The students role in assessment is obviously by context the flip side from that of the teacher.Their role is to engage with the lesson and prepare for any exam they will sit. Ultimately it is on the student how well they want to prepare.
- I do not think the current methods of assessing students are the fairest way of assessing. The current methods test your ability to remember large volumes of information, not do you actually understand any of it.
- I think that one of the major problems with assessment both nationally and internationally is how much importance is placed on it. Do not get me wrong it is obviously important but I feel that we place so much pressure on succeeding in exams that it has a negative effect on the mental and physical health of many students
