  • The Stamp Act of 1765 was an act that imposed a tax on paper documents on Americans. The act created another layer of angry toward the British government. Leading to more protesting against the British from the Americans. Spreading revolutionary ideas throughout the colonies. In conclusion the Stamp Act taxed an everyday item making the already angered American colonists more infuriated because of the taxes.
  • Intolerable/Coercive Act 1774
  • The Townshed Act was an act that taxed even more items that were used everyday by the colonists. It taxed imports such as paint, lead, and glass. As stated before these item were used everywhere around the colonies makings them some of biggest imports making the taxes imposted hit import businesses the most. The colonist reaction to the act was similar to other taxes imposted on them, i.e. protesting and anger.
  • Salutary Neglect 1775
  • The Tea Act imposted a tax purely just on tea. The act became a boiling point for the colonist due to all the other texes being repealed besides the tax on tea. With all the anger up to this point the protest to combat the act targeted tea companies with protests like the Boston Tea party. The protests showcased a form of resilience within the colonists while fincially affecting the British government. Protest following the at were seen by some as the start of the Revolutionary war.
  • Common Sense 1776
  • The Coercive Act were four laws put in place by the British government to reprimand Massachusetts colonist for the Boston Tea party. With the act the Quartering act was brought back to Massachusettes. While protest seemingly stagnated feeling toward the British didn't change. Colonist outside of Massachusettes looked at Massachusettes as their future under the British there was more protesting and anger.
  • Salutary Neglect was an untold standered that allowed for colonies that were more loyal to the British to have more lax laws. This was especially present in the south due to southern colonies being more loyal to the crown.The big law that became more lax in exchange for loyalty was the Navigation Act. Allowing for southern colonies and other loyal colonies to have more relaxed trade laws compared to the other colonies.
  • Common Sense was a pamphlet written by Thomas Paine to lead the colonist towads revolution. The pamphlet was wide spread across the thirteen colonies spreading revolutary ideas with it. Paine's writing helped to unite the colonists against the British. While not every colonist was pro revolution Paine's writting helped explain the reasoning behind revolution.
