Escape pt 2

I ran to my mother's house, it wasn't far away, trying not to get distracted by the scenic route, careful while I was on my way there, fearful of the soldiers behind me.

I reached her house, but she cried and told me we needed to escape; the Russians had just bombed the hospital and were going for my town next.

We evacuated the town and were offered a place to stay inside a hidden bunker. We stayed for a few months until the Russians found us.

Everyone ran. We went through the emergency exit and left the bunker behind. We were running forward and no stopping, no exceptions. The slow was left behind, and many people were lost when we ran.

We saw the Polish border in the distance, and we immediately rushed to it. We screamed and yelled at the people guarding Poland to let us in, which they did without questions.

Bezpieczne miejsce

They opened the borders and guided us somewhere safe inside Poland around the middle of the city; it had the weirdest name, Bezpieczne miejsce. I still don't know what that means to this day.

They supplied us with food and hot chocolate since it was a freezing day. They also gave us places to sleep, and finally sleep without fear; I felt safer than ever. Thank you, Poland.
