- In this scene of Jordan Peele's "US" Adelaide and Red are in confrontation with one another in the tethered world. The purpose ofit is revealed to "Adelaide". It is intense because Red is telling her about the life she was supposed to have.
- Adelaide and Red first meet one another at the boardwalk amusement park. If there was more of an understanding between both girls, then possibly Adelaide and Red could have worked together.
- In constructing the counter narrative to the disturbing classroom scene, I had to think about what it represented. The argument from both sides makes sense. Red wanted to escape her poor and forgotten people, for something better. In doing so, she had to take from someone else as a sacrifice. I think in our society we have people who are trying to escape a bad situation such as what Red was in, in hopes of being somewhere better. They meet people who are like them, but had better opportunities to cultivate their skills / talents and make something of themselves. Red was not originally given that opportunity, until she stole Adelaide's life. We as a society can be scared of people who are different or live a different life, but at the end of the day everyone has the ability to do anything. It really depends on what assistance is given to them or if someone gives a chance for success. Just think of if Red was able to live alongside Adelaide and the entire tethered population was discovered? Perhaps they could've found new purpose for everyone's tethered person, and provided a better life. Everyone could have lived in peace.
- Red was seeking refuge from the forgotten tethered society. The poverty and abuse she faced down below was unfair to her and the other human clones. She escaped, but stole Adelaide's life. When the girls initially met, perhaps it could have gone differently. Maybe when Red captured Adelaide, then Adelaide could have helped Red out. Together they could have formulated a plan to battle the "tethered" world below, and the crisis it represented.
