A rich man is departing on a journey and leaves his servant's talents of money. To the first servant, he gives 5 talents, to the second servant 2 talents, and the last servant 1 talent.
The Second Servant
The first servant who received five talents created five more, the second who received two talents created two more, and the last servant who received one talent buried it to protect it.
The Last Servant
Now, after a long time of the master being away, he returned. The servant who had received 5 talents went up to his master with 5 more and said: Sir, you have entrusted me with 5 talents; here are 5 more that I have made. His master said to him, Well done, good and faithful servant; you have shown you can be faithful in small things, so I will trust you with greater; come and join in your master's happiness.
The Master's Response
Next, the second servant who had received 2 talents came forward to his master and said: Sir, you entrusted me with 2 talents; here are 2 more that I have made. His master said to him, Well done good and faithful servant; you have shown you can be faithful in small things, so I will trust you with greater; come and join in your master's happiness.
Finally, the last servant who had received 1 talent went up to his master and said: Sir, I had heard you were a hard man, reaping where you had not sown and gathering where you have not scattered; so I was afraid, and I went off and hide your talent in the ground. Here it is; it was yours, you have it back.
His master replied: You wicked and lazy servant! So you knew that I reap where I have not sown and gather where I have not scattered? Well then, you should have deposited my money with the bankers, and on my return, I would have recovered my capital with interest. So now, your money will be taken from you and given to the man with 5 talents. For to everyone who has will be given more, and he will have more than enough; but from the man who has not, even what he has will be taken away. You are a good-for-nothing servant, and you will be thrown into the dark, where there will be weeping and grinding of teeth.
