All the gods were invited to celebrate the wedding of Peleus and Thetis marrige, all but Eris. Goddess of strife...

So, she created a golden apple, enscribed with the words ¨ FOR THE FAIREST¨

That´s to me! I´m the fairest

Eris dropped the apple into the party, Hera, Athena, and Aphrodite see that apple and believe it is to them and so they fought...

The goddesses asked Zeus who was the fairest but he was unable to answer so they asked the prince of troy, each bribing him to say they were...

Hera offered the prince all of Asia, a HUGE piece of land....

Athena offers the prince amazing skill and luck on the battlefield...

Aphrodite offers him the prettiest woman in the world,.......

and of course......

like any (stupid) man would he chose the prettiest woman in the world

And so the story goes........

Helen of Troy (sometimes called Helen of Sparta) whose elopement with (or abduction by) the Trojan prince Paris sparked off the Trojan War. Helen was the wife of Menelaus, the king of Sparta, and considered the most beautiful woman in the world.

And so the Trojan War began........
