  • Annelise Marie Frank was born on June 12th in 1929 in Frankfurt Germany to Otto and Edith Frank. A few years before, Anne's sister, Margot, had been born. Both their parents were a German jews; Otto a buisnessman and Edith worked in her own family's business.
  • In 1933 at the age of 4, Anne and her family move to Amsterdam when Hitler goes into power. Her parents no longer saw a future for them in Germany. They had already started introducing laws against jews. Despite this, Otto started his own company in Amsterdam, and Anne lived a normal life and started kindergarden. Holland was however a new country for her. But in 1940, Germany invads the Netherlands. Soon after, they start deporting jews, organise the murder of european jews, and mandate the yellow star of david in the Netherlands.
  • On June 12th 1942, Anne receives a diary for her 13th birthday. A couple months later, Otto realizes they couldnt emigrate or escape the Nazis. Their only hope was to hide. Margot, recives a call summons her to a labour camp. The family feared for her life and took action. They moved to an annex of Otto's business premises that he had set up earlier. With the help of six of Otto's employees and friends, the Frank family went into hiding on July 6th 1944, and were soon accompanied by the Van Pels.
  • Anne used her diary to escape her world. She writes of imagenary friends and what it was like in the annex and at schhol, as well as complaining about how crowded it was in hiding. She lived with seven other people, four of which she didnt know. But it didnt matter since she had her imagenery friend Kitty that she would write letters to. The Franks stayed in hiding for two years before being caught on August 4th 1944.
  • The Franks and the others in the annex were taken away and transported to Auschwitz. Later on, Anne and Margot were transfered to Bergen-Belsen, a concentration camp in Germany where they died of typhus. Otto was the only one to survive out of the eight. He was liberated in 1945 and returned to the Netherlands alone.
  • In Amsterdam, Otto met with Miep, a close friend of the family. She had heard the awful news about Anne and gave her diary to Otto since she could now not publish it as she dreamed. For some time, Otto could not bring himself to read the diary, but when he finally did he was captured by her writing and "had no idea of the depths of her thoughts and feelings" . He asked a few friends and relatives to also read some of the passages; many of which thought he should publish the diary. Soon after, an article was published in the newspaper about the diary. Otto published "The Secret Annex" on June 25th 1947. Within a few years, the book became an international success and can now be found in any library in the world.
