In the 1800's in paris there was a woman named Mathilde who lived with her husband. Mathilde was pretty and charming.
Climax
But she was ungrateful for everything she had. She felt like she should be rich which other women of her class would not even have been aware of.
Falling Action
One day Mathilde's husband came home holding an envelope. Mathilde drew out a paper saying that she was invited to a fancy event. Mathilde didn't want to go because she didn't have anything to wear. Her husband felt bad for her so he gives her four hundred francs which he was saving for a gun.
Resolution
Mathilde got her dress however it wasn't done she needed jewels so she asked her friend Madame Forestier if she can use something of hers. Mathilde finds a diamond necklace and asked Madame she says yes. The next day she danced madly drunk with pleasure with no thought for anything. In a cloud of happiness.
She left at four o'clock in the morning. When going home to her apartment she took off the garment and when looking in the mirror the necklace was no longer around her neck. They look everywhere but they can't find it. They went to a jeweller searching for another necklace they find one that looked exactly like the one they were looking for. They had to borrow thousand and thousands of money. They had to pay ten years of debt.
One sunday, as she went for a walk she caught madame her rich friend. Her friend didn't even know it was her. She tells her the whole story. Her friend says her was an imitation it was worth at most five hundred.
