  • The Monsters Are Due on Maple Street: Mankind is its own enemy
  • One Major Theme of "The Monsters Are Due on Maple Street" by Rod Sterling is mankind is its own enemy. For example, after Charlie shot Pete Van Horn, everyone was accusing Charlie of killing Pete Van Horn because maybe he was going to tell us something that he didn't want us to hear. So Charlie denies the accusation and his alibi was that he didn't know who it was and he also said that it was in self defense and no one believed him so he accused Tommy of being the Monster. So then Tommy denies the accusation and accuses Les Goodman and then Les denies the accusation and accuses Charlie and then all of the residents didn't know what to do so everybody starts to panic and some people even start to grab weapons. Then the camera starts fading back to two exotic looking creatures, and the creatures start explaining how humans are their worst enemy. In conclusion, I think that if people ever start to panic or get nervous they try to find a scapegoat so they can have someone to blame about something.
