- Mildred started reading Montag's hidden books after he showed her his hidden stash. At first, Montag found the writing incomprehensible and difficult to comprehend.
- Argument
- Montag gets a seashell-like communication device from Faber, so that Faber can assist him when he is around Beatyy and the other firefighters.
- Mildred burning books
- Montag returns home hoping to discuss ideas and books with Millie. Unfortunately, in Montag's case, a little learning is dangerous thing, because when he returns home, he finds company.
- Playing Poker
- Despite his attempts to converse with the woman, Montag is frustrated by their shallow musings about a recent election and the war to come. Mrs. Bowles scolds Montag when Montag reads "Dover Beach" from a book of poetry.
- He hides them again after they leave, and then finds that Mildred has been burning his stash of books.
- Montag returns to the fire station and is greeted by Beatty. He invites Montag to join them at the poker table where they're playing after he returns from being sick.
