  • Avoid mobile phone usage while driving.
  • Wear seatbelts in car.
  • Use pedestarian crossing to cross roads.
  • It is illegal to text or talk on the phone without using a hands-free device when driving as it can be dangerous, with studies showing that drivers who were engaged in hands-free phone conversations took a longer time to react to situations as compared to drivers who were not engaged in conversations. Try to avoid using the phone while driving to ensure road safety and prevent potential road accidents from happening.
  • Don't switch on high beam light when driving in rain.
  • Wearing a seatbelt while driving is important and it is an essential road safety rule as it can prevent injuries to both the driver and passengers should there be a car accident. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), wearing a seatbelt can reduce the risk of suffering injuries or death by about half.
  • Staying safe in a moving vehicle.
  • People, especially kids have a tendency just to sprint across the street, anywhere they like. That can be dangerous as passing vehicles do not slow down unless there is a signal or a crossroad. When crossing roads, cross only at an intersection and use the pedestrian crossing.
  • Never cross road on bends.
  • Using your hazard lights when it’s raining may actually do more harm than good. When you use your hazard lights, you won’t be able to utilise your turn signal as well. You should also never use your high beams when driving in heavy rain as the light will be reflected back to you, causing you and the drivers around you to be blinded which may result in an accident.
  • You should never stand inside a moving vehicle, especially a bus or van. Moreover, you should not move around inside a moving vehicle. Always stay seated and hold on to the hard rail inside the bus for support, until the vehicle comes to a stop. Lastly, do not put any part of the body outside the window of a moving vehicle.
