- Jim asks where he has to be, and the boy starts to ramble breathlessly but smiles.
- A FEW MONTHS LATER...
- Jim is captivated by the boy and wants to keep talking. To learn who "Allie" is. However, boy in the red hunting hat who claims to be named Jim leaves in a hurry.
- Why are you doing in a place like this alone?
- I'm visiting my brother! I come every week and my parents don't come too often but I do.
- Jim is left alone in the street.
- Well that's nice of you. Say, where did you get that hat?
- From my brother Holden! He can't wear it here so I take care of it for hum.
- Jim is in the waiting room. He is visiting Judy at the mental hospital where she was admitted after her adrenaline and initial numbness wore off. Too people she cared about dying in one night was too much for her to handle, and she has fallen into depression.
- The only one in the waiting room is a little girl. She is wearing a light blue dress and is alone. Jim asks about why she is there alone.
- Something looks familiar about the girl. Jim recognizes her hat and questions the girl where she got it.
