- The British Navy was suffering from men shortages, so they forced US sailors to join them. Almost 10,000 Americans were impressed to join the Napoleonic Wars (France and England)

- The British saw that the nation was in unrest, and the capitol of America was vulnerable, so British troops barged in and burned it all down to the ground.
- Referred to as the greatest American land victory of the war, the Americans, led by Andrew Jackson defeated the larger British force. This increased hopes for a faster end to the war.

- The British planned to bombard the crucial port city of Baltimore and destroying Ft. McHenry, but with its successful defenses, the British were turned back and forced to retreat. This was a huge turning point in the war for the Americans.
