- Easier said than done. Nobody was hiring. Shops were closing more and more often, and even Mamma's shoes didn't bring me much luck. For what seemed to be the millionth time in the past year, I walked home jobless, mentally budgeting what we'd have to let go of this month to pay for Mamma's medication
- This morning, I wore Mamma's Sunday shoes. The same ones she wore on special days, but that was years ago. I slipped the shoes on before I left the house for good luck. You see, its just been my little brother Joey and I since mamma got sick. We've all had to do our part, and mine, was to find a job.
- "no...there still isn't anywhere I can work at. What about you?"
- "Same here", my brother replied. "But, I picked up a newspaper I found on the street."
- "Well? did you-"
- It read, "Prosperity is just around the corner! -Hoover" I wanted to rip my hair out. that's all that sorry excuse for a president has been saying for months, it just keeps getting worse. I didn't even want to read the rest.
- "Of course he can say that!" I angrily said, "He isn't the one who has been trying to get by everyday for the past year."
- Joey sighed. "Who knows, maybe Hoover is right? We shouldn't give up hope, and who knows better than the president?"
