IDEA stands for the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act. It is a law that ensures children with disabilities receive a free appropriate education, just like their non-disabled peers.

IDEA makes sure that your child's and family's rights are protected and that you have the tools you and educators need to improve educational results. Under IDEA the school is required to provide special education services through an Individual Education Plan (IEP) in your child's least restrictive environment..
How will IDEA help support my child and family?

Are there pros and cons to the law?
Some cons to IDEA may include, complex procedures, inconsistent implementation, it can be costly for schools, and there is always potential for misdiagnosis.
