  • In The Monsters Are Due on Maple Street by Rod Serling, one of the main theme is Mankind is its own worst enemy. When Goodman tried starting his car it didn't work then a few minutes later it did but then, Goodman says I don't understand. I swear... I don't understand. Whats happening? , after that deal Don says maybe you better tell us. Nothing's working on this street. Nothing. No lights, no power, no radio. Nothing except one car ---- yours. This supports the theme because Don is coming at Goodman for this when he has nothing to do with the power and he is just as confuse as they are and he has no control of his car by itself with no keys this all happens on page 674. Another reason Mankind is its own worst enemy is because after Steve tells Charlie to go home and keep his mouth shut Charlie says you sound really anxious to have that happen, Steve. We better keep an eye on you too . Now they are blaming that Steve is now the monster when he didn't do anything this is on page 678. Next Woman says Charlie... Charlie... the lights just went in your house. Why did the lights go on? , then don says What about it , Charlie? How come you'r the only one with lights on now? this is on page 680. In conclusion this is why i think the theme is mankind is its own worst enemy because these reasons all support the theme I chose because everyone is just accusing everyone as the alien when it really isn't.
