  • On a fine morning in Pakistan (15th century), a Hindu man named Nanak had went to a river bank to pray and prepare for the day.
  • He felt a call, a call from God, instructing him to walk down the river. So down the river he went, he left his clothes behind and let his full self be embraced by God.
  • That afternoon his family became concerned about his whereabouts so they walked down to the river. There, they found his clothes and presumed him dead.
  • He continued walking for 3 days before returning back to his family. On the night of the 3rd day he returned to his village and had something to say.
  • He told everyone about how God had led him on a journey and he began to preach his message. He had stated that being a Hindu or Muslim is fake and Sikhism is real. Some people joined while others opposed.
  • Across Pakistan and across India he preached. Through his travels, he had grown a large following and thus Sikhism had started. From there, Nanak became the first Guru and his beliefs have been passed on for generations.
