- The main cause of the Great Depression was Overproduction. Factories and farmers were producing more goods than people would buy! Everyone was in debt. To farmers to businessmen.
- Buying On Margin
- Farmers produced fewer goods. They used new technology. And at the end they had no options to pay their debts.
- Shaky Banking
- This is when stock become worth a lot more than the actual value of the company. In 1929, people panicked and began selling stocks like crazy.
- Restriction On International Trade
- This is crazy! Right?
- Allowed the common people with little financial acumen to borrow money from their stock broker and put down as little as 10% of the share value.
- A whole crowd of people came to the bank to withdraw their deposits. But eventually led to bank failure.
- Other countries responded to the United States' tariffs by putting up their restrictions on international trade, which just made it harder for the United States to pull itself out of its depression.
