- The French had split their population into three estates, The highest being the first and second estate. These estates were filled with high-ranking people and nobles. Finally, the third estate, was filled with commoners and has no power or say in the ruling of France. They were the only ones that paid taxes because the other estates did not want to spend their money on something that is not luxurious.
- Storming of the Bastille (July 14,1789)
- The cause for France becoming bankrupt was because the king and queen spent all their money recklessly on luxurious items. Their solution to this was to tax the third estate even more. This infuriated the third estate.
- Legislative Assembly (1791)
- King Louis XVI calls for the representatives of all three estates to solve Frances's financial problem. They conducted a vote to declare what the best option was. the higher class outnumbered the lower class and enraged the lower class representative. Then the 3rd estate suggested they should vote by the population because they would have an advantage.

- The third estate's solution was rejected and infuriated them. This led to the third estate being locked out of meetings and they created the National Assembly, a vow to create a new constitution for France. The king did not like a written constitution and decided to attack the 3rd estate, but they were attacked first. This became France's independence day and in August, the Declaration on the Rights of Man was issued.
- A new government was created and was known as the Legislative Assembly. It controlled how much authority the estates had and eventually abolished the feudal system. They prevented any corruption by only letting taxpayers vote on necessary topics. They then took church land and only appointed people to work there by the election of the people. This made 2/3 of church officials flee rather than pledge allegiance. The new government was unsuccessful because the royal family and nobles sought for outside help.
- Right after a new government was created, France was invaded by Napoleon, and he later reformed France and set a dictatorship in France. He was spreading his enlightenment around France and opened jobs based on talent. The napoleon code was established and what it means is it gave citizens equal rights and religious tolerance. Napoleon leaves his brother on the throne when they took down the king of Spain. This led to Spain losing all its power in the colonies. Then Napolian Leads to independence movements in Spanish colonies in the Americas.
