  • The Monsters Are Due on Maple Street Theme: Fear and suspicion are destructive
  • One major theme of "The Monsters Are Due on Maple Street" by Rod Serling is that fear and suspicion are destructive. For example, when Les Goodman's car turns on when everything goes out everyone thinks that Goodman is an alien which destroys his say in things for a while. Another example is when Charlie sees a figure approaching the town, he out of fear and suspicion shoots Pete Van Horn not because he hates Pete but because he is scared, and when he sees the figure he shoots and destroys Pete's life out of fear and suspicion. Last, when everyone is throwing accusations at one another all of them together destroy the town, the place that people thought they could call home was all destroyed because a kid said that there were aliens inside of the town causing fear, suspicion, and destruction. In conclusion, from the evidence that I have gathered fear and suspicion are destructive is one of the themes in "The Monsters Are Due on Maple Street" by Rod Sterling.
