I'm thinking of running for local government, but I don't know how
To be nominated you have to fill out a nomination form.
Then you have to get a certain amount of signatures from people who support you. After that you have to sign Saying you are eligable and would take the job if elected
Step: 1 Nominating
Great! what's next.
Once you're nominated you have to start campaigning
You have to try to convince people to vote for you by advertising the things you would do when elected. You can put up signs, talk to people at there houses, give brochures, call people and even attend public meetings to share your ideas.
Step: 2 Campaigning
How do I campaign?
Now that you have started campaigning it's time for the people to vote!
An official called the deputy returning officer prepares the polling station. Then people cast their vote on a ballot in secret. Once they vote they fold the ballot and put it in a box. To vote they must be 18 and older and have to be a citizen
Step: 3 Voting
How does voting work?
Declaring the outcome! Once everyone votes and the polling station is closed the election workers count the ballots. The deputy returning officer declares the winner which is announced on TV, radio and newspapers.
Step: 4 declaring the outcome
What happens next?
No problem, good luck!
Thanks for all your help now I know how to run for local government!
