  • That which hath had made them drunk hath made me bold.
  • Do mock their change with snores. I have drugged their possets, that death and nature do contend about them whether they live or die.
  • I have done the deed. Didst thou not hear a noise?
  • Lady Macbeth had gotten the guards so drunk they pass out and it is hard to tell if they are sleeping or dead. Now she is waiting for Macbeth to kill Duncan.
  • With all great Neptune's ocean wash this blood clean from my hand? No, this my hand will rather the multitudinous seas incarnadine, making the green one red.
  • Macbeth enters with bloody daggers after killing King Duncan

  • Macbeth gives Lady Macbeth the daggers and she leaves to put them with the guards. Macbeth hears more knocking and is paranoid. He looks at the blood on his hand and says that even the ocean can't wash the blood from his hands and the he can't wash off the guilt he is feeling. He also believes his hands will turn the ocean red.
  • Lady Macbeth is saying that all he needs is a little water to wash the blood then she hears knocking.
  • Lady Macbeth hears more knocking so she tells Macbeth and her to get into their nightgowns and pretend to be observers to King Duncan's murder to seem innocent.
