  • Hi Alexa!! Do you know about the Indus valley civilization??
  • Hi Spencer!! Yes, The Indus Valley civilization started 4700 years ago from 2700-2500 BCE. It was called as the Indus Valley civilization because it lied near to the Indus river.
  • The Indus Valley Civilization is also known as the Harappan Civilization because it was first found in 1921 at Harappa. It was also found at MohenjoDaro in 1922. 483 km was the distance between both of the sites.
  • The Indus Valley Civilization had The Citadel and the lower town. The Citadel was occupied by the Ruling class. It had very tall walls. The lower town was occupied by common people. They had thick walls.
  • The remarkable thing about the arrangement of the houses in the lower town is that they followed the grid system. They were straight and intersected each other at right angles, thus dividing the city in rectangular blocks.
  • The Great bath was one of the largest buildings discovered till now. It comprised a tank made of beautiful brick work. A brick dockyard had been discovered at Lothal. It is believed that it was a port.
  • They had a granary to store grains. The Fire Altars were found at Kalibangan, fire altars have been found which indicate that some kind of sacrifice was performed over here.
  • The Indus Valley was fertile due to the annual inundation in the Indus River. Agriculture was one of the main economic activities of the people. Many of the Harrapan sites fell in the low rainfall area and its likely that.
  • The most striking of the bronze figurines was the bronze Dancing Girl from Mohenjodaro. They used to make ornaments like beads, pendant brooches and bracelets.
  • The Harrapan people practised numerous other arts and crafts. Cloth weaving and pottery making were important crafts. These people traded with the cites of the Mesopotamian where some 2 dozen Harappan seals were found.
  • Bye Alexa ! We will talk later.
  • Bye Spencer!!
