- At the start of chapter 1, the two-man, George who is short, have sharp features and his friend ,Lennie who is tall, strong, and has childish feature was walking down the Salinas river. In this panel, George was angry at Lennie for carrying a dead rat with him.
- George took the mouse and threw it across the pool to the other side, among the brush. “What you want of a dead mouse, anyways?" (Pg 4)
- “Aw, leave me have it, George.” (Pg 4)
- George and Lennie are warming up their beans. Geroge then got mad at Lennie for wanting to put ketchup in his beans. George then got furious of Lennie for having another dead mouse again.
- “You crazy fool.Don’t you think I could see your feet was wet where you went acrost the river toget it?” (Pg 5)
- “I wasn’t doin’ nothing bad with it, George. Jus’ strokin’ it.” (Pg 5)
- After George and Lennie finish eating their meal, both of them settled down and start talking about their dreams of have a ranch, own a bunch of rabbits, live a good life in a small little shack.
- “O.K. Someday—we’re gonna get the jack together and we’re gonna have alittle house and a couple of acres an’ a cow and some pigs and—” (Pg 8)
- “An’ live off the fatta the lan’,” Lennie shouted. “An’ have rabbits. Go on,George! Tell about what we’re gonna have in the garden and about the rabbits in the cages and about the rain in the winter" (Pg 8)
