  • The Winter at Valley Forge (1777)
  • The Winter at Valley Forge is where George Washington took his soldiers to rest for a while. They just lost a battle for Philadelphia and made an area to rest 20 miles northwest of the city, near the Schuylkill River. They planned their next attack on Great Britain and won. But while at the camp, disease spread, making it harder to keep more soldiers. They had a lot of food at first, but then it shrunk.

  • George Washington's Quarters
  • George Washington had separate quarters from everybody else because he was in charge of the army. He helped the army when they were sick, and planned strategies in his quarters. His quarters were a bit better than the rest of the armies' because he was in charge. George Washington even ordered that every house has two windows on each side.

  • Soldiers Quarters
  • General George Washington and his Continental Army had made an area for them to rest and eat. They had food and clothing, but it was a little scarce at the time. They typically used logs from trees that were to be found there to make their houses. The houses were constructed not as good as George Washington's quarters, but at least they had windows.

  • Problems Faced by the Soldiers #1
  • One problem the soldiers went through wasn't just losing every battle they ran into, was disease. The disease killed many men, so battling was not as easy with fallen soldiers. Having disease made it so that it was hard, and having no food on top of that.

  • Problems Faced by the Soldiers #2
  • Like the last box said, food was scarce later in the season. Disease and less food were making it harder to live in camp so they had to do something quick. The only food they had was gross mushed-up stuff, which was the only thing they ate. The Winter at Valley Forge was difficult for the soldiers to live.
