- Tons of pollution are created when packaging cosmetics because it is no longer useful when done with it. Many chemicals have been found in cosmetics that could create hormonal disruptions, reproductive issues, irritation, cancer, and allergic reactions.
- Even though some companies claim to use “natural” ingredients, as opposed to strong chemicals, which is an empty promise, considering there is no official definition for what “natural ” is made by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) when it comes to cosmetic products. One of these “natural” ingredients is palm oil, and with the rise of demand for cosmetic products, Indonesia, the main producer of palm oil, is now the world's 8th biggest greenhouse gas producer. This is because to acquire these large amounts of palm oil, thousands of trees are deforested, using intentional forest fires, and in turn, destroying the habitats of hundreds of animals.
- Well, how can I help stop this?
- There are many ways! We can also start making more recyclable plastics to use for packaging so that when it is no longer in use it can be made into something else. This will make more reusable products for people, and it will not contribute to global warming. It will be able to make it so that people also don’t have to make more plastic and more CO2, they can reuse plastic. Most plastics actually are recyclable, but it's more a matter of making people recycle it, so people can reuse it.
