- “ You don’t have to be friends with the freak if you don’t want to be, you know…” (Palacios 154). After Julien tried to switch to Jack's group for a project, Julien was thinking that Mr. Tushman was asking Jack to be friends with Auggie. Jack wanted to be friends with Auggie. This is just before Jack punched Julien in the face at school.

- “I heard Julian’s mom photoshopped August’s face out of the class picture when she got it” (Palacio 158- 159). While Jack was “taking a break” from school. He said this to him mom. Jack’s mom said back “I guess the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree”.

- “Look guys, it’s Gollum”
- “The notes to Jack were stupid, like: You stink, big cheese! And Nobody likes you anymore! I got notes like: Freak! And another that said: Get out of our school, orc! (palacio 208). Julien was putting really mean notes on Jack and Auggie’s locker.

- “Ella and I bad mouthed her to each other: She’s such a prude, she’s so this, she’s so that. We knew we were being mean, but it was easier to ice her out if we pretended she had done something to us (palacios 239). Ella and Miranda were saying mean things about Via even thought Via didn’t even do anything.
- “Look guys, it’s Gollum”(Palacios 266). The eight graders, Eddie and his friends, were being rude and bullying Auggie and Jack. They were calling Auggie mean names like Gollum. Being rude never has a positive consequence.
- “Okay, jerks. Morons. Imbeciles,” she said, flipping over the sandwich in the pan (Palacios 277).Auggies mom was thinking of names to call Eddie and his friends once she heard about what happened in the woods.
