- When Marjane was young, she father her father if she could participate in one of the demonstrates but was denied. Her father knew the types of actions that occurred at these events and wanted her to stay save. Despite this decision, this event pushed Marjane's sense of activism even more and contributed to her character throughout the entire novel.
- My Life
- A lot of things can get out of hand at those protests, I don't want you getting hurt.
- Okay, I'll find other ways to help the movement.
- In Iranian culture, family is very import. This event is when Marjane's mother came to visit her in Austria. It was a great bonding experience for Marjane and was something she needed after being on her own and struggling for so long. This event gave Marjane motivation to keep moving forward.

- Marjane went through another metamorphosis after her return to Tehran. She attempted suicide several times but when all failed, she sought out help from a therapist. From there she decided she would be taking herself in hand. This change in not only her look but her life style signifies Marjane's determination for success in life. She now has more confidence and self-reassurance.

- My father also did not allow me the protests for BLM because of the dangerous events that might occur. It upset me to not be able to participate but I understood and decided to find other ways to support the movement. This allowed me to explore new methods of activism and learn how to use my voice in other ways for any situation.
- My mother is very important to me and I value her input a lot. That is why the event(s) where we have conversations are significant to my life. Not only that this event is a moment of endearment like Marjane and her mother, but also a reevaluating session where we talk about life and things I can work one. This allows me to process my current situations and plan to move forward in life like Marjane.
- My metamorphosis took place between 8th and 9th grade. Physical change allowed my to prioritize my my health. As Marjane may have realized, taking care of one's mental health includes also taking care of one's physical health. My metamorphosis allowed me to focus on more of what I wanted all throughout high school.
