- Once we are lost, we will assess the situation. We will need a shelter to protect us from the heat and rain, as well as a reliable source of water and food. Though we do have some food in our backpacks, it won't be enough for us.
- One source of water can be cacti. Certain areas of the cactus contain water that are drinkable. The cliffs of the badlands are unstable at times, so we have to be careful.

- A source of food is the local wildlife. One example is snakes. Though they are fatally poisonous, they provide a decent amount of food. If we can get a campfire going, it will feed us.

- A second source of water is the incoming storm. Using a piece of cloth to filter the water, the rain can travel through the cloth and into our bottle for somewhat safe water. The precipitation is roughly 16 inches per year.
- During the rain, we will be in a cave to protect us from the storm since we don't have proper clothes for the rain. It also is cooler in the cave, so we are safe from getting heatstroke for a while. There are some berries in the badlands, so those are another source of food.

- Finally, to get back to civilisation, we can try to follow the nearby river back to drumheller.
