Napoleon invaded Italy creating the Kingdom of Italy while southern Italy remained part of the Holy Roman Empire. But it didn't last long because after he was defeated each providence separated again.
In the revolution of 1848 people rebelled against the Austrians, and Naples, all while Rome turned into a republic but their attempts for rebellion were unsuccessful and the Pope was reinstated. King Victor Emmanuel II and his allies to fight the Russians and complete the unification.
In 1858 King Emmanuel offered Nice and Savoy to France whilst attacking Austria which started the 2nd war for Italian Independence. This was the start of of central states in Italy joining the Piedmont.
Garibaldi invaded Sicily and worked towards Naples in the 1860, he wasn't able to invade Rome due to French troops. In 1861 Northern and Southern Italy were united under King Emmanuel's rule.
Austria gave France Venice and soon after the French gave Venice to Italy. The Italians captured Rome in the 1870s after the Franco-Prussian war causing french troops to leave Rome.
Italy's final unification had many issues because there wasn't a standard language, economy, and there were still some conflicts throughout the country. The Italian unification also caused issues in Europe due to previous alliances with the separate territories.
