  • Yes around lunch time. My stomach was also really upset and i I was getting sharp stomach cramps.
  • Well Dr.Jones, I had a really high fever, severe diarrhea, and I had nausea and was vommiting a lot.
  • No, I don't.
  • Hello Katie, what seems to be the matter?
  • Did you by chance prepare a meal for yourself? Is anything else hurting?
  • Do you know the 4 steps to prevent food poisoining?
  • Oh dear I think you have a really bad case of food poisoning or you contracted a foodborne illness.
  • First step is to make sure you have a clean enviroment. You need to have clean hands, utensils, and surfaces
  • Follow me, let me take you through it while we prepare bacon and eggs together!
  • A foodborne illness is common and preventable. You can get food poisoning after swallowing food that has been contaminated with a variety of toxic germs or substances.
  • You need to have a clean enviroment because germs can spread and survive in many places.
  • It's ok. Take this as a learning experience.
  • I washed my hands and utensils but I never wiped down my surfaces.
  • Oh cool! I never knew that.
  • Yes, but remember to seperate them everywhere. While your cooking, in the fridge, and even in your shopping cart.
  • Next, we need to remember to seperate meat, poultry, seafood, and eggs from all ready cooked food.
  • Yes! This why it is really important to seperate them from cooked food so it doesn't contaminate the cooked food.
  • Do meat, poultry, seafood, and eggs spread illness causing bacteria?
  • Since we haven't made anything, we can go to the next step.
  • Katie felt extremely ill earlier so she called Dr. Jones to come to give her a checkup because she was concerned for her safety. Dr. Jones arrives and sits on the chair and begins talking to Katie. After they finish talking Dr.Jones and Katie go to the kitchen.(https://www.cdc.gov/foodsafety/symptoms.html)
  • Next step is we need to cook the food and use a themometer to make sure the food is cooked to the right temperature.
  • That's the spirit!
  • Most people don't know either. We need to do this to ensure maximum safety. Did you know 600 million become ill after eating contaminated food?
  • Wow I never knew that we had to take the temperature of our foods.
  • That's really sad. I wanna learn more to ensure my safety and inspire others to take these safety measures as well!
  • Oh no I didn't! That's a lot of sick people.
  • After Katie and Dr.Jones talked, Katie and Dr.Jones washed their hands, pulled out the pan, teaspoon, and fork, and washed them. They also wiped down all the surfaces. Katie took out the bacon, eggs, salt, and oil.(https://www.cdc.gov/foodsafety/prevention.html)(https://www.cdc.gov/foodsafety/keep-food-safe.html)
  • Ok last step! You need to refrigirate your foods promtly at below 40 degrees fahrenheit because bacteria can multiply the quickest at 40 to 120 degrees fahrenheit. .
  • I'm so happy you have learned how to keep yourself safe!
  • Remember anyone can get food poisioning and certain groups of people can get seriously ill because their bodies ability to fight germs and sickness isn't as effective.
  • And let's not to forget to seperate the leftover uncooked bacon and eggs from all the other foods in the fridge.
  • Oh my gosh i've learned so much today!
  • I'm really happy you came today Dr.Jones. I have learned so much from you.
  • After Katie and Dr. Johns finish talking, Katie grabs a pen and sticky note and writes down a reminder to separate foods later on. She then cracks two eggs, season the eggs with salt, and stirs everything together. She then pours oil in a pan and waits for the oil to heat.(https://www.cdc.gov/foodsafety/keep-food-safe.html)
  • The bacon and eggs are soo good!
  • You are very welcome. Rememeber keep food safe. Clean, Seprate, Cook, and Chill. Always be safe!
  • They are spectacular!
  • I want to thank you again so much for everything. I can't wait to teach my family everything you've taught me!
  • After they stop talking, Katie pours the egg mixture into the pan and cooks the eggs. After she is done, she hands the pan to Dr. Jones so that she can wash it. Dr.Jones passes it back to Katie to cook the bacon. Both the eggs and bacon are cooked, so they check the temperature. The eggs and bacon are at the perfect temperature!(https://www.cdc.gov/foodsafety/keep-food-safe.html)(https://www.businessinsider.com/annual-food-poisoning-deaths-2015-12)
  • Sadly 420,000 die each year, 125,000 being children under the age of 5.
  • After they stopped talking Dr.jones and Katie separate the raw meat, poultry, seafood, and eggs from all the other food in the fridge. Katie then set the fridge to the perfect temperature. Both Katie and Dr.Jones then go to the dining room.(https://www.cdc.gov/foodsafety/people-at-risk-food-poisoning.html)(https://www.cdc.gov/foodsafety/keep-food-safe.html)
  • That's right good muscle memory! After we can go eat the bacon and eggs.
  • After they finished talking. Dr.Jones and Katie finish the bacon and eggs they made. Later Dr.Jones leaves and Katie goes to bed feeling shielded and knowledgeable.(https://www.cdc.gov/foodsafety/keep-food-safe.html)
