  • Survivor Diaries: AVALANCHE! by Terry Lynn Johnson
  • SAY CHEESE!
  • The twins
  • Where it all started...
  • SHH! You are going to scare the wolf.
  • OW!!
  • A family was on vacation on a skiing slope. The children veer off the trail and find themselves lost. It is up to Ashley, the daughter, to not only save her brother’s frostbites but his life too. What was supposed to be a fun family skiing trip turned into something that could cost their entire life.
  • Saving Ryan
  • The main characters are Ashley and Ryan. They are twins. Ryan was always more successful in school and athletics. They are on a skiing trip as a family.
  • That wasn't that hard part...this is!
  • The family had been skiing down slopes for hours and finally, it was lunchtime. A little after lunchtime Ashley and Ryan veered off the trail, curious to see a wolf. Just as they were heading back to where their parents were, the snow started to crack around their feet. Ashley and Ryan knew what was happening. They had learned in ski club that cracking snow meant an avalanche was forming. Then they saw it, a slab of snow was falling on them. They ran down the mountain and screamed “Avalanche!” The avalanche swept both Ashley and Ryan off the ground.
  • A few months later...
  • I learned something from this.
  • Oh really, What?
  • Ashley realized one of her hands was free, she dug herself out with the tactic from ski club. She crawled in the snow hoping to find Ryan. Then she felt pain shoot through her body. It was Ryan's ski pole. Ashley knew Ryan had to be somewhere around the pole. Then she heard a scream of "HELP!". It was Ryan. She dug him out and helped him up. They stood there for a bit to realize what just happened. They were lost!
  • HELP!!
  • The twins soon find out that the cold is not their only enemy. Bears and wolves are a constant danger towards them. If they are going to survive, Ashley must push away her feelings, insecurity, and fear to make life-and-death decisions for both of them. She built an igloo, covered Ryan’s frostbites, used the only food and water they had wisely. She finds missing children’s flyers with pictures of them, almost gets attacked by a bear but still manages to find her way into her parent's arms.
  • Yeah , we need to get out of here
  • There are many wild animals out here
  • Months later, Ashley and Ryan are recovered. Ashley finds herself telling her story to the whole school. She said, “I may have recovered from my injuries but that vision of the snow falling on me will never recover.” Ashley learns something from this experience. She learned that even if her twin brother I better at her in sports, school, and popularity, that does not make her any less good. She knows her brother will always love her. I mean, after all, she did save him. THE END
