- On May 25th 2020, a video was uploaded that changed the world. The video showed footage of police officer Derek Chauvin kneeling on the neck of George Floyd for 9 minutes and 29 seconds, causing him to suffocate and die.

- George Floyd had just made a purchase at a grocery store. An employee believed Floyd used a counterfeit 20 dollar bill for the purchase. The police were called to deal with the situation, and this led up to the events that resulted in his death.
- Oh no, I gotta go
- This is counterfeit! GET BACK HERE!! I'm calling the police.
- George Floyd was 46 years old when he died, and he left behind his girlfriend Courtney Ross, his 9 year old daughter Gianna Floyd, and countless other family members. He was described as one of them to be a "gentle giant."
- 17 year old Darnella Frazier recorded the mistreatment of George Floyd and uploaded it to facebook. By the end of the week, the video had gone viral and had been shared across platforms such as Instagram and youtube. The video was watched by millions and millions of people both nationally and globally. No other police brutality event had been recorded quite like this one had, and seeing the cruelty with which George Floyd was treated with angered many. This provoked people to action.

- The impact of George Floyd's death was monumental. Protests were held on a global scale. Everywhere, people raised their voices in anger, deeply touched by the footage they had seen. People took the time to educate themselves more on the issues of police brutality and systemic racism and activist movements like Black Lives Matter gained momentum.

- Despite the clear evidence of unfair treatment, George Floyd's killer was not tried until nearly a year later. After many protests, petitions, and pleas, Derek Chauvin was charged with second degree murder and sentenced to 22.5 years in prison for the murder of George Floyd. While justice was served for George Floyd and his family, there are so many instances of police brutality where the person at fault is never persecuted. Gianna Floyd said her dad changed the world, and hopefully, this world can soon truly reflect her words.
