  • Today, we are going to discuss about Gas Laws.
  • Boyle's LawCharles' LawGay-Lussac's Law
  • Gay-Lussac's Law states that the pressure of gas is directly proportional to the absolute temperature when volume remains constant.
  • Boyle’s Law states that the pressure (P) of a gas is inversely proportional to the volume (V).Who can tell me about Charles' Law and Gay-Lussac's Law?
  • Charles' Law states that the volume occupied by a fixed amount of gas is directly proportional to its absolute temperature, if the pressure remains constant.
  • Can you write the formulas of the 3 laws on the board?
  • Boyle's LawP1V1 = P2V2Charles' LawV1/T1 = V2/T2Gay-Lussac's LawP1/T1 = P2/T2
  • Can you give me a real life example of Boyle's Law application?
  • During respiration, our lungs make use of Boyle's Law. While inhaling, the lungs are filled with air; therefore they expand. The volume increases hence the pressure level goes down. Similarly, when the lungs are excavated of air, they shrink; therefore, the volume reduces and the pressure increases.
  • The deodorant spray bottle is an example of Charles' Law. The instructions on the bottle has warning signs that the bottle must be kept away from sunlight and high temperature. This is because, under high temperatures, the air molecules inside the bottle will expand which can lead to the bursting of the deodorant bottle.
  • Can you give me a real life example of Charles' Law application?
  • Can you give me a real life example of Gay-Lussac's Law application?
  • The bursting of tires is caused by Gay-Lussac's Law. In hot summer days, the inflated tires of vehicles may burst. The inflated tires are under high pressure. When the temperature of the air rises, the pressure of the gas in the tubes increases. After an unbearable point, the tires fracture.
