- The Crusades happened because of the Holy land in Jerusalem.And there was a new group called the Seljuk Turks. They were controlling Jerusalem in 1071 and Christian's couldn't go because of them. Then the Seljuk Turks were invading the Byzantine Empire. So the Byzantine emperor asked for help to the pope. In 1096 the pope responded and the first crusade happened. Also the Christians captured Jerusalem from the Muslims.
- In 1187 a man named Saladin helped the Muslims in the Crusades. He also helped the Muslims recapture Jerusalem and win some battles. Also King Richard The Lion Hearted did a truce with Saladin in 1192.
- In 1270, the Muslims had driven the Crusaders out of Palestine.
