  • Cell Division is our topic today, every living organism uses cell division to grow bigger.
  • Chromosomes are made up of Chromatids, each Chromatid is attached to an identical chromatid at the centromere.
  • Could you tell me anything else about Cell Division?
  • Is interphase the time when the cell isn't in cell division.
  • Interphase is also part of the cell cycle and it makes up most of the cell's life.
  • Mitosis is occurs during the M-phase, and it includes the division of the nucleus, but not the cytoplasm.
  • Excellent! Prophase is the first phase that occurs during mitosis. Chromatin condenses into chromosome during this stage. Centrioles are used to separate chromosomes. Metaphase follows prophase. Chromosomes are lined up across the cell and they are prepared to be pulled apart. Anaphase begins as soon as the chromosomes separate and telophase begins when the chromosomes stop moving.
  • Telophase is the last phase of mitosis. You can remember the order of these by PMAT. Sometimes cytokinesis begins before telophase ends. Cytokinesis is when the cytoplasm is separated. In animals the cell membrane pinches the cytoplasm, and in plants a cell plate forms and the cell membrane and wall grows along the cell plate.
  • Cyclin is a protein that qualifies as an internal regulator and it controls when a cell enters cell division.
  • What does Cyclin do?
  • To conclude you should know that cancer is a disease of the cell cycle and it occurs when a cell loses the ability to control it's cell cycle.
