- You two boys sure missed a lot while you were out here in the country.

- Dally in his car drives out to Ponyboy and Johnny to explain to them everything that was going on back in their town. After being told everything that happened They thought about going back. Dally told Ponyboy about what Soda and Darry were like without him and Ponyboy and Johnny both agreed to go back home.
- Lift on three, one... two... three... lift
- While on their way back they drive by the church to see it going up in flames. Ponyboy and Johnny remember smoking in the church and realize that it may have been their fault. That's all they could think the whole time, Its our fault.
- We were so worried about you, what happened?
- I could say the same thing, but what about Johnny and Dally, are they ok?
- Ponyboy and Johnny realize that because it's their fault they should help everyone with the situation. They asked one of the adults named Jerry and they heard that there were kids trapped inside they knew what they had to do. Ponyboy and Johnny both gallantly dive into a broken window of the church to rescue the kidds and along the way end up hurting themselves causing Dally to have to rescue them.
- We're finally home, this time to stay, but in the meantime, I'm really tired.
- After Ponyboy and Johnny are hurt in the accident along with Dally they all have to driven to the hospital. Ponyboy after getting there seems to be just fine and Dally has a minor burn that will leave a scar. Johnny however, if he survives will be crippled for life after his effort in the burning church.
- Crying and sobbing, Ponyboy finally got to see Soda and Darry once again. To Ponyboy, Darry and Soda are like home anyway. Darry and Soda tell him about everything he's missed and now Ponyboy feels like he's at home again. They stay in the waiting room for Dally and Johnny to be out and Ponyboy knew that Dally would be ok but he was still apprehensive about Johnny.
- Finally, after their long night at the hospital Ponyboy Johnny and Soda could all go home to rest at last after going 100 years without rest in the country. After going up to their rooms they all immediately collapsed until morning . This time Ponyboy was back to stay, and stay forever.
