  • The exposition of the text.
  • "The thousand injuries of Fortunato I had borne as Ibest could, but when he ventured upon insult I vowed revenge.I must not only punish but punish with impunity.''
  • The Point of attack.
  • "My dear Fortunato.... I have received a pipe of what seems to be amontillado"..."as you are engaged, i am on my way to Luchesi"
  • "Amontillado, a pipe? Impossible and in the middle of carnival!" "Come on lets go.. to your vaults"
  • Rising action with dramatic irony
  • "My friend, no; i will not impose on upon your good nature .. i perceive you are afflicted.. the vaults are damp and encrusted in nitre " i suffered him to hurry me up my palazzo.
  • "Let us go, nevertheless. The cold is a mere nothing. Amontillado! You have been imposed upon"
  • "You don't comprehend?" "Then you are not of the brotherhood""You are not the masons""A sign""You jest"... "but let us proceed to the amontillado"
  • This scene shows the exposition of The Cask Of Amontillado. The author presents Montresor's goal, conflict, and the antagonist's name. It also tells us a bit about Montresor's mentality.
  • "Descent"
  • "Not I""Yes,yes," "yes,yes""a mason""a sign""it is this"
  • Slide two portrays the point of attack, where Fortunato is lured in with the cask of amontillado and manipulated by Montresour ("as you are engaged I am on my way to Luchesi") into going to his vaults.
  • The climax of the text.
  • "The Amontillado!"
  • "pass your hand" "over the wall; you cannot help help feeling the nitre. indeed it is very damp. once more let me implore you to return. No?Then i must positively leave you. but first let me render all your little attentions to my power"
  • Here is dramatic irony where Montresour acts concerned for Fortunato's health and insists on not going to his catacombs. In contrast, Fortunato insists on going and hurries Montresour up his palazzo. This is dramatic irony because the reader has knowledge of what is happening, and Fortunato does not. This sets the stage for the rising action.
  • conclusion of the text.
  • *Jingling of bells*
  • "Fortunato""Fortunato"*Throws torch inside*
  • In the text, Montresor describes "bowed him through several suites of rooms to the archway that led into the vaults. Ipassed down a long and winding staircase,... we came at the length of the decent". Which metaphorically stands for "a decent into hell." This scene also shows the moment of foreshadowing and dramatic Irony that continues to build the narrative.
  • Above is shown the climax of the story, Montresor arrests Fortunato with the chains in the crypt, pushes away the bones, and reveals his masonry equipment. Montresor tortures him by sarcastically asking that he would go back, and Fortunato mindlessly is stuck on the Amontillado.
  • The Scene here shows the conclusion, moments before the falling action when Fortunato was pleading with Montresor. Here Montresour calls out for Fortunato; upon getting no answer in return, he throws in the torch and only receives the sound of bells jingling in return.
