- The Haudenosaunee Creation Story
- The First People (who are the first people) lived beyond the sky since the Earth was non-existent before.Everything was doing fine not until one day, the chief's daughter became sick. But, there was no person that could give her the cure.
- Then suddenly, a wise elder was called. He advice them to dig up a tree then after, lay the chief's daughter close to the hole. The Sky people started doing what he said.
- BUT! Out of nowhere, the tree fell down through the hole and even the daughter of the chief fell down. When the daughter was falling, she saw there was an ocean below.Two swans noticed a lady falling. They caught her from below, and took her on the back of the Great Turtle.
- The Great Turtle named the chief's daughter as the Sky Woman. The turtle told the animals that she was a symbol of good fortune.He began to ask the animals to look for the Sky World Tree that had fallen to the ocean and to bring it back to life.
- With the help of swans, they guided the animals to the place where the Sky World Tree fell down. The three animals: Otter, muskrat, and beaver swam under the water to look for the tree. When they came back at the top of water, they did not bring the tree.
- Suddenly, an old woman toad decided to help. Many animals thought she was already lost but when she came back, she spitted out a what is called Earth onto the back of the Great Turtle.
- The island on the back of the turtle grew so much. However, there was something missing: A light on the sky. And so, a small turtle made two balls and threw them to the sky, they are the Sun and the Moon.The world on the back of the turtle became the home of the Sky Woman. There, she gave birth to the twins, Tharonhiawagon and Tawiskaron.
