- Charlie is 37 years old, he can't spell very well and has a 68 IQ only. Also goes to school. 
- Climax
- Charlie was introduced to an experiment that would make him smarter. After failing many tests, he also met Algernon, the rat.
- Falling action 
- Charlie started struggling with his 'friends', they aren't who he think they are. The operation also started, he got his IQ rise to 200.
- Resolution 
- Charlie finds that he would lose the intelligence eventually, during the time he spend with Algernon, he also develops a close relation with it. Then the saddest part came, he found out Algernon didn't have much time left.
- When Charlie lost his intelligence everything went back to normal, going back to take the classes. 
- At the end Charlie decided to move away , and asked the teacher to give Algernon flowers when she visit.
