- Charlie is a student Miss Kinnian, who has a very low IQ, and works at a Plastic Box Factory. He is interviewed to be a candidate for a IQ raising surgery, and is chosen by the team of doctors.
- Climax
- The surgery is successful and Charlie begins to get smarter. He meets Algernon who had a similar surgery and starts to car for him. Miss Kinnian teaches him how to spell, write, and read.
- Falling Action
- Charlie rapidly becomes smarter and begins to surpass everyone else in knowledge. This causes conflict with many of the peopke in his ife because they like the old charlie better.
- Resolution
- The dishwasher boy falls at the diner Charlie is at, and Charlie comes to the realization that he was once like that boy. Through this he concludes that he must try and find a cure and help people who were like his past self.
- Charlie is desperate to find a cure for himself after he realizes that he will regress like all the other animals are. He starts to work on research to find how to stop the regression. He discovers the Algernon-Gordon effect that proves her will eventually regress.
- Charlie has regressed completely and lost all of his knowledge and memories that he gained from the surgery. He decides to move away from New York in order to avoid Miss Kinnian, the doctors, and others.
