  • In 1951 Linda Brown was denied the right to go to a school in Topeka, Kansas. Mr. Brown then sued the board of education for not being fair towards Linda. This case will make the Supreme Court rule out segregation in schools.

  • In December 1955 Rosa Parks said no to a white man about giving up her seat. Rosa parks was thrown off the bus and went to jail. This sparked the Montgomery Bus Boycott led by Martin Luther King Jr. African Americans refused to ride the buses and soon enough the governor allowed blacks to sit anywhere on the bus.
  • We just want to be treated fairly.
  • We deserve voting rights.
  • In September 1957 a group of nine black students went to an all white high school. This was allowed but other students would treat these nine students poorly and unfair. After all that people say these students stayed strong. This event is called Little Rock Nine School Crisis.

  • In 1960 a sit-in movement took place at Greensboro, North Carolina. Four freshman black students went to a restaurant and sat at the white only counter. They stayed seated until they were served. They weren't served that day so they came back with more students. They showed non-violence and the hostility of whites.
  • On March 21 to 25, 1965 the Selma March took place. Martin Luther King was the first to lead this march. This was a huge civil rights movement. The people were strong and eventually got voting rights.
  • In February 1972 the Double V. Campaign took place. A lot of people were involved. This campaign was to show the whites that the blacks deserved to be treated fairly because they were as American as anybody else. This campaign stood for two victories, the one at home and the one abroad. This showed strength in the blacks.
